12.00pm - Webinar - Understanding the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard and Its Implementation and Potential Impact
In May of 2021 President Biden reinstated Executive Order 13690, the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard. The intent of the standard is to improve the Nation’s preparedness and resilience against the impacts of flooding, informed by the best-available and actionable science. This webinar will focus on the history of the FFRMS, current efforts to implement the standard, and the significance of the standard for floodplain management. While the standard only applies to federal actions and projects receiving federal funding, the fundamental concepts and new tools being developed to help define future flood risk will likely be valuable tools for states, communities and others seeking to prepare for the flood risk of the future. Ample time will be provided to answer questions.
Learning Outcomes:
• Better understand the history and intent of the FFRMS
• Understand how federal agencies are implementing the FFRMS
• Understand the impact of the FFRMS on floodplain management practitioners
• Learn about the tools being developed to assist with implementing the FFRMS and other potential uses.
